Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General
The Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General is the principal legal adviser to the Government of Ghana. It initiates and reviews legislation, prosecutes criminal matters on behalf of the state, and ensures the rule of law is upheld across government institutions.
What we do
The Ministry of Justice is Ghana’s chief legal office. We draft and review laws before they go to Parliament, represent the state in court, and prosecute serious crimes. The Legal Aid Commission, which we oversee, ensures that every Ghanaian — regardless of income — can access legal help. We also work with Parliament and civil society to modernise Ghanaian law so it serves citizens better.
