For Ghanaians abroad
Dual citizenship, passports, visas, residence permits — plus a standing invitation to return. The Beyond the Return decade runs 2020 – 2030.
The Year of Return — and Beyond
In 2019 Ghana invited every person of African descent to come home. Over one million visitors answered. The Beyond the Return decade (2020–2030) continues that invitation with easier citizenship paths, diaspora investment channels, and an active programme of Ghanaian-mission engagement on six continents.
Whether you hold Ghanaian citizenship already, are claiming it by descent, or are visiting for the first time, the services below are the most common places to start.

Non-Ghanaian visitors apply for a visa through the Ghana Immigration Service e-visa portal, the nearest Ghanaian embassy, or on arrival at Kotoka International Airport depending on nationality.
Ghanaians who hold another nationality can apply to be recognised as dual citizens. Dual citizens retain most rights but certain public offices are restricted.
Apply for a residence permit to live in Ghana as a foreign national for longer than your visa allows. The Ghana Immigration Service issues permits under the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
Eligible foreign nationals can apply for a visa on arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Check whether your country qualifies before you travel.

Missions worldwide
Ghana maintains over 50 embassies, high commissions, and consulates-general worldwide. Each can process passport renewals, issue emergency travel documents, register births of Ghanaians born abroad, and certify documents. Find yours through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
