Apply for Ghanaian dual citizenship

Ghanaians who hold another nationality can apply to be recognised as dual citizens. Dual citizens retain most rights but certain public offices are restricted.

Before you apply

If you live abroad, file at your nearest Ghanaian mission rather than travelling to Accra. Bring originals for verification.

Step by step

  1. Obtain and complete the dual-citizenship application form.
  2. Submit the form with supporting documents to the Ministry of the Interior or your nearest Ghanaian mission.
  3. Pay the fee.
  4. Attend any interview as requested.
  5. Collect the Dual Citizenship Certificate.

After you apply

Dual citizens may hold any public office except: President, Vice-President, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, Chief of Defence Staff, IGP, Commissioner of CHRAJ, Auditor-General, Ambassador or High Commissioner, or Secretary to the Cabinet.
