Apply for a Ghana visa on arrival
Eligible foreign nationals can apply for a visa on arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Check whether your country qualifies before you travel.
Before you travel
Check the Ghana Immigration Service website or your nearest Ghanaian embassy to confirm your country is on the visa-on-arrival list. Obtain your yellow fever vaccination certificate — you will not be admitted to Ghana without it.
Step by step
- On arrival at Kotoka International Airport, proceed to the Ghana Immigration Service visa-on-arrival counter before the immigration passport control queues.
- Present your passport, return ticket, accommodation proof, and yellow fever certificate.
- Pay the visa fee (US dollars are accepted; check the current rate at gis.gov.gh before travelling).
- Receive your visa sticker and proceed through passport control.
- Customs clearance follows as normal.
After you arrive
Your visa on arrival is valid for 30 days from the date of entry. If you need to stay longer, apply for a visa extension at the GIS headquarters before your visa expires. Overstaying attracts fines and may affect future travel to Ghana.
