Government reduces E-Levy rate to 0.5 percent with effect from 1 May 2026
The Ministry of Finance has announced a reduction in the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) from 1 percent to 0.5 percent of transaction value, effective 1 May 2026, following recommendations from the mid-year budget review.
The Minister for Finance has announced that the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) rate will be reduced from 1 percent to 0.5 percent of transaction value with effect from 1 May 2026. The change follows recommendations in the 2026 mid-year budget review and is intended to increase uptake of mobile money for small everyday transactions.
The daily exemption threshold — currently GH₵ 100 per sender per day — will remain in place. Transactions below GH₵ 100 per day will continue to attract no E-Levy charge. This means that most daily transactions by low-income earners, including market traders and transport workers, will still be levy-free.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has confirmed that telecom companies and mobile money operators are required to implement the new rate in their billing systems by 30 April 2026. Customers will see the updated charge reflected in transaction confirmations from 1 May onward.
For questions about the E-Levy, visit the GRA website at gra.gov.gh or call the GRA helpline on 0800 900 100 (toll-free). The levy is charged by your mobile money operator — not by the government directly — so you should contact your network provider for transaction-specific queries.
