NIA launches targeted drive to enrol remaining 1.2 million unregistered Ghanaians
The National Identification Authority has launched a 90-day targeted enrolment campaign to reach citizens who have not yet received a Ghana Card, focusing on rural communities, persons with disabilities, and elderly citizens across all sixteen regions.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has launched a 90-day targeted enrolment campaign beginning 20 January 2026. The campaign aims to reach the estimated 1.2 million eligible Ghanaians — primarily in rural communities, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities — who do not yet hold a Ghana Card.
Mobile registration units will be deployed to communities without a permanent NIA registration centre. In the Upper East, Upper West, North-East, Savannah, and Oti regions, units will operate from district assembly premises and community health centres. In urban areas, special sessions will be held at homes for the elderly and disability support centres.
The Ghana Card is required for access to key services including voter registration, opening a bank account, obtaining a SIM card, and applying for a passport. Holders of a valid voter identification card issued before 2020 may use it as a supporting document during this campaign.
To find the nearest mobile registration unit, text “CARD” and your district name to 1422 (free of charge on all networks). You can also call the NIA helpline on +233 30 222 6591 between 08:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
