Apply for a birth certificate

Register a new birth or request a certified copy of an existing record. Certificates are issued by the Births and Deaths Registry.

Before you apply

Confirm the registration district for the place of birth. For a Ghanaian born abroad, contact the nearest Ghanaian mission.

Step by step

  1. Visit your registration district office with the required documents.
  2. Complete and sign the prescribed form.
  3. Pay the applicable fee.
  4. Receive the birth certificate on the day, or by post within 2 weeks for remote districts.
