Register a product with the Food and Drugs Authority

Register your food, medicine, cosmetic, medical device, or household chemical product with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) before you can legally sell it in Ghana.

Before you apply

Obtain a site licence for your manufacturing, import, or distribution premises before submitting a product application. A complete and accurate dossier reduces review time significantly — check the FDA’s product-specific guidelines on fdaghana.gov.gh before compiling your documents.

Step by step

  1. Create an account on the FDA Product Registration Portal at fdaghana.gov.gh.
  2. Select the correct product category (food, medicine, cosmetic, medical device, or household chemical).
  3. Complete the application form and upload all required documents and laboratory certificates.
  4. Pay the application fee through the FDA portal.
  5. The FDA reviews your dossier and may request additional information.
  6. Once approved, download your product registration certificate and use the assigned registration number on all product labels.

After you register

Product registrations are valid for 5 years (medicines) or as specified on your certificate. Renew before expiry. Notify the FDA immediately if you change the product formula, label, or source manufacturer.
