Request a tax clearance certificate

Get a tax clearance certificate from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to prove your tax affairs are in order. You need this for government contracts, some business licences, property transfers, and travel bans.

Before you apply

File all outstanding returns and settle any tax debt before submitting your request. A clearance will not be issued if any undisputed liability is outstanding.

Step by step

  1. Log in to the GRA Taxpayer Portal at gra.gov.gh with your TIN and PIN.
  2. Navigate to “Tax Clearance Certificate” and complete the online request.
  3. Upload supporting documents — most recent returns and payment receipts.
  4. GRA will verify your compliance status. If an outstanding amount exists, you will be asked to settle it or agree a payment plan.
  5. Download or collect your certificate once GRA approves the request.

After you apply

Tax clearance certificates are valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Present it to the requesting institution (e.g., procurement office, licensing authority) before it expires.
